Figma introduced Specs, a Markdown-based editor for documenting a team’s design language, at its first Config event in India. The document is designed to serve as a reference for people and AI agents while designing. Figma aims to use these tools to help its own and third-party agents follow brand rules more closely.
Connecting rules with designs and libraries
Specs can live in a standalone Figma file or directly on the design canvas. Beyond text, users can link to specific canvas elements and embed designs. Documents can also include FigJam diagrams and code layers.
Teams can bring together context for their design system in one place, combining guidelines with design and code libraries. Agents can also refer to this centralized context when working with the system’s rules.
Code layers enter public beta
Another update focuses on building interactive prototypes. The code layers feature adds code to designs on the canvas and entered public beta at the India event, opening it to more users. Figma originally announced it in private beta in June.
Users can also involve the agent when refining a prototype, asking it to convert a design into code or change a specific part of existing code. In the week before the announcement was reported, Figma expanded access to its on-canvas agent to a wider group of users.
Connections to more tools and website content
Figma said its MCP now supports more than 20 new tools. It named Open Code, Dia and Grok Bot, as well as Indian AI startup Sarvam.
Figma is also integrating Payload, an open-source headless CMS, into Figma Make. The integration is intended for generating dynamic websites and managing their content directly.
