Pika has released an extension that brings tools for creating and editing images, video, sound and music into ChatGPT. Users can work in an interactive side panel without leaving the conversation. A timeline editor also lets them adjust clip timing or regenerate individual shots.
Visual presets and video editing
The extension’s controls go beyond text prompts. Its side panel offers clickable presets and options, reducing the need to describe every parameter in a prompt.
For video work, the timeline supports adding transitions, effects and music alongside its clip-timing and shot-regeneration controls.
Pika says its catalog contains more than 40 apps for images, sound and video. Those apps use over 100 generative media models.
Library sync works in both directions
Connecting a Pika account lets users load existing library assets into the extension. New creations made through ChatGPT are saved back to the Pika library.
ChatGPT hosts the interface, Pika handles processing
The integration uses OpenAI’s Plugin Extensions framework and the Model Context Protocol (MCP). OpenAI introduced the framework at its September 29 DevDay event, enabling external tools to display interactive interfaces within ChatGPT.
Although the interface appears inside ChatGPT, an MCP server on Pika’s infrastructure executes the tools and processes data.
Pika built on a server layer it already operated. Its public MCP endpoint and earlier integrations for Claude Code and Codex supplied much of the infrastructure needed for the ChatGPT extension.
Installation and rollout restrictions
The extension can be installed through Pika. Users can also invoke it by typing @pika in the message field, but that method works only in the ChatGPT desktop app. Some other extension features are also desktop-only.
OpenAI is rolling out Plugin Extensions in stages. During this rollout, web extensions are unavailable on Free and Go plans, with support listed as “coming soon.” Existing plugin functionality remains available.
Generation consumes Pika credits, and after completing their first generation through the extension, users receive 250 free credits in the connected account as a limited trial balance.
