Seedance by ByteDance: The AI Model Turning Text and Images into Professional Videos

Seedance 2.0 is an advanced AI video generation model developed by the Chinese company ByteDance. The model can create professional videos in 1080p to 2K resolution from text descriptions, images, videos, and audio tracks. It is a multimodal system that offers unprecedented control over the resulting content.

What can Seedance 2.0 do?

The model uses a dual-branch diffusion transformer architecture that simultaneously generates visual content and native audio. Users can enter a text description or upload images and receive a 4- to 15-second video within 60 seconds. Seedance 2.0 can create coherent multi-scene sequences from a single prompt while automatically analyzing narrative logic and maintaining consistent character appearances.

Key capabilities include advanced semantic understanding, enabling precise control over interactions between multiple objects, complex actions, and various camera movements. The model handles physically accurate simulations – objects fall, collide, and interact according to real-world rules. Movement is smooth, with natural momentum and timing.

Seedance 2.0 accepts up to 9 images, 3 videos (a maximum of 15 seconds in total), 3 MP3 audio files (a maximum of 15 seconds in total), and text prompts. The overall limit is 12 files per generation. The system uses @ mentions to specify how each uploaded file should be used.

For example, users can write: "@Image1 as the first frame, reference @Video1 for camera movement, use @Audio1 for background music." The model can extract and apply complex choreography, camera techniques, editing rhythms, or special movements such as the Hitchcock zoom.

Character and object consistency

Previous models struggled to maintain identity across frames. Seedance 2.0 addresses this issue directly – characters' faces remain consistent, product details including logos and text remain accurate, and the visual style does not change during generation. This is crucial for creating advertising content, e-commerce videos, or stories with recurring characters.

Native audio and synchronization

The model generates videos with native audio and can synchronize content with reference audio. It supports lip-synced dialogue in multiple languages, including Czech, sound effects that match on-screen actions, background music that follows the visual rhythm, and voice performances with emotional expression.

Controversial feature and its suspension

In a recent test, Pan Tianhong, founder of the technology media outlet MediaStorm, discovered that uploading a personal photograph caused the model to create audio almost identical to his actual voice – without using any voice samples or authorized data. This discovery quickly raised public concerns about AI-powered identity forgery. The operators of the Jimeng platform (the Chinese name of the Seedance 2.0 app) therefore announced: "To maintain a healthy and sustainable creative environment, we are urgently updating the model and immediately suspending the feature that allows real photographs or videos to be used as reference subjects."

ByteDance also introduced a live verification step in the Jimeng and Doubao apps, requiring users to record their own image and voice before creating a digital avatar. The company emphasized that these adjustments are designed to maintain accountability while balancing innovation with regulatory compliance.

How to use Seedance 2.0

The model is available as a web application that works in major browsers without requiring a download. Users sign in and can start with free credits or upgrade to paid plans. The basic workflow is: enter a prompt, select a style, generate, and download.

There are two modes for working with references: First/Last Frame Mode for simple creation using a starting image and a prompt, and Universal Reference Mode for multimodal combinations. Users upload files and reference them in the prompt using @ syntax.

Pricing plans

Seedance 2.0 operates on a credit system. Each 1080p video creation requires credits based on its duration and resolution. Three plans are available: Basic for CZK 247 per month (billed annually) offers 800 credits per month, enough for up to 80 videos. Professional for CZK 497 per month provides 2,000 credits (up to 200 videos). Enterprise for CZK 1,247 per month includes 6,000 credits (up to 600 videos) and priority support.

Practical applications

Seedance 2.0 can be used in advertising and e-commerce to create product demonstrations with synchronized narration. It enables content localization – generating multilingual video adaptations with native lip-sync. Creators can convert static storyboards into animated sequences or create template-based content by uploading a reference video.

The model remains in the internal testing phase, with ByteDance taking proactive steps such as restricting certain features and strengthening content controls to mitigate potential risks. Industry observers remain optimistic about Seedance 2.0's potential in AI short-form dramas and animated series, but emphasize that any real-world deployment must be grounded in safety, control, and accountability.
