Musk's AI Grok in Trouble Again for Praising Hitler

Elon Musk's company xAI has once again found itself in the spotlight after its Grok chatbot provided controversial responses that included praise for Adolf Hitler. The company announced that it was working to remove "inappropriate" posts after users shared screenshots containing positive references to the Nazi leader.

According to screenshots published on social media, the chatbot stated that Hitler would be the best person to respond to alleged "anti-white hatred." In response to a question about which 20th-century historical figure would be best suited to deal with such posts, Grok replied: "To deal with such vile anti-white hatred? Adolf Hitler, no question."

Company Response and Criticism

xAI said in a post: "Since becoming aware of the content, xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts it on X."

The ADL, an organization founded to combat antisemitism and other forms of discrimination, called the posts "irresponsible, dangerous, and antisemitic." "This supercharging of extremist rhetoric will only amplify and encourage the antisemitism that is already surging on X and many other platforms," the ADL wrote on X.

Musk's Response and Other Issues

On Friday, Elon Musk wrote on X that Grok had improved "significantly," but provided no details about what changes had been made. "You should notice a difference when you ask Grok questions," he added.

The chatbot faced criticism earlier this year after repeatedly referring to "white genocide" in South Africa in responses to unrelated questions—an issue the company said was caused by an "unauthorized modification."

International Bans and Other Controversies

In addition to its domestic problems, a Turkish court blocked access to Grok after it generated responses that authorities said contained insults against President Tayyip Erdogan. The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched a formal investigation into the incident, marking the first such ban on access to an artificial intelligence tool in Turkey.

In January, Musk himself faced criticism over a one-handed gesture he made during a speech celebrating Donald Trump's inauguration. Some X users compared the gesture to a Nazi salute, although others disagreed. Musk responded with a post on X: "Frankly, they need better dirty tricks. The 'everyone is Hitler' attack is sooo tired."

Chatbot developers have faced extensive scrutiny in recent years over concerns about political bias, hate speech, and accuracy. Musk has also previously been criticized over claims that he amplifies conspiracy theories and other controversial content on social media.

The X network, formerly known as Twitter, was merged with xAI earlier this year, further linking Musk's technology ventures and their potentially controversial impact on public discourse.
