This haunted house has been around for many years, donates part of its proceeds to local charities, and is sure to give you a good scare. The website says:
It is said that it was a cold October night in 1882 when an enraged lynch mob finally put an end to the murderous rampage of Hezekiah Jones, a man known simply as the Hangman. After the sun went down, he stalked his victims along the banks of the Trinity River and hanged them until they died. Hundreds of people died at the end of his rope.
Then, one October night, the mob hanged him by the neck with his own bloodstained rope. The mob watched as he gasped for breath through the blackened sack covering his face. They left him hanging in the cold night air to die. But when the gravedigger returned in the morning, he found only a broken rope dangling from the branch of a rotting oak tree down by the river’s edge.
According to legend, the Hangman will not die until the souls of all his victims are gone. Every year, he takes one soul from his rope to sustain his dreadful existence. But when they run out, he will die. Unless, of course, he kills again.
More than 25,000 people have claimed to see the Hangman stalking victims along the banks of the Trinity in search of new souls to fuel his murderous rage.
No one knows for certain how many new souls he has found. But there are telltale signs that he is searching for victims again. The jingling of spurs, the creaking of a rope, and his growling, maniacal laughter have been heard in the area.
You can bet that he will appear again this October and stalk the banks of the Trinity. Be warned! He may come looking for you.
