Since January 2025, approximately ten senior employees have left the company, including the head of the foundation models team. Many of them have moved to rivals such as Meta, OpenAI, or Cohere. For example, Ruoming Pang, a key researcher, accepted an offer from Meta worth $200 million, equivalent to approximately CZK 4.6 billion. Apple’s AI team has only around 50 to 60 people, so each departure significantly weakens its development efforts.
What Is Preventing Apple from Recruiting
The company has enormous financial resources but is cautious about spending. It has failed to match competitors’ offers, leading experts to leave. Analysts speak of a crisis of confidence in Apple’s AI future. Employees see a slower rollout of innovations and internal disagreements over strategy. Apple is considering using external technologies to improve Siri, which points to weaknesses in its in-house development. Investors are frustrated by delayed features, such as the integration of large language models, which are not expected to arrive until next year.
Meanwhile, Microsoft Is Forging Ahead with AI in Windows 11
Microsoft, on the other hand, is turning every Windows 11 computer into a full-fledged AI PC. Yusuf Mehdi, executive vice president and chief consumer marketing officer, announced new updates that integrate Copilot directly into the system. This assistant enables voice or text interaction, understands context, and performs actions with your consent. For example, saying "Hey Copilot" starts a conversation in which the computer listens and responds. Features such as Copilot Voice double user engagement compared to text input because 68% of people use AI for decision-making, and voice makes it easier.
Copilot Vision, available in every country where Copilot is offered, analyzes on-screen content with your permission. It can provide advice when editing documents in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, assist with creative projects, or provide guidance in games. For example, it can show you where to click to complete a specific task or evaluate a travel itinerary. A text version for those who prefer typing is coming soon. Copilot Actions extends these capabilities to local files—for example, sorting vacation photos or extracting data from PDFs. All of this runs in the background while you do other things.
Taskbar Integration and Gaming Updates
Microsoft has redesigned the taskbar for easier access to Copilot. With a single click, you can launch voice or visual assistance, making it faster to find files and settings. In gaming, Gaming Copilot is coming to devices such as the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, developed with ASUS. By holding down a button, you can get tips and recommendations directly in the game without having to leave it. This brings Xbox, Windows, and Copilot together for a better gaming experience on the go.
Security is key—Copilot Actions is disabled by default, and you can pause it or monitor its progress. Microsoft is rolling out these features gradually, starting with Windows Insiders to gather feedback. The updates are available through the Microsoft Store.
