xAI Invests $300 Million in Telegram for Grok AI Integration
Musk's company xAI announced a partnership with the popular communication platform Telegram, committing to pay $300 million in cash and equity for the integration of its Grok artificial intelligence into all Telegram applications. Telegram CEO Pavel Durov announced the news on May 28, 2025 in a post on the social network X. The one-year partnership has the potential to significantly impact the AI technology landscape in communication applications.
The deal is characterized not only by a $300 million financial investment but also by an innovative revenue-sharing model under which Telegram will receive 50 percent of the revenue from subscriptions to xAI services purchased through the Telegram platform. This arrangement will enable Grok to reach more than one billion Telegram users while providing Telegram with new monetization opportunities through AI subscriptions. In his announcement, Durov emphasized that user privacy would be protected and that xAI would only have access to data that users explicitly share directly with Grok through their interactions with the chatbot. The integration of Grok AI into Telegram will provide users with a range of advanced features, including writing suggestions, conversation summaries, and content moderation support. This collaboration represents a strategic move by both companies—xAI will gain access to one of the world's largest communication platforms to dramatically expand Grok's user base, while Telegram will strengthen its financial position and enhance its application with state-of-the-art AI technologies. The partnership reflects a growing trend in the technology industry, with AI tools being integrated directly into popular communication platforms to improve the user experience and create new revenue streams.
Although Durov initially presented the deal as finalized, Elon Musk subsequently stated publicly that "no deal has been signed." Durov then clarified that an agreement in principle had been reached, but formal completion was still pending. This development highlights the complexity of major technology partnerships and the importance of carefully handling the legal aspects of such significant business relationships.
