Colossus 2: What It Is and How It Works
Colossus 2 is the successor to the previous Colossus 1 system and is primarily used to train and improve xAI’s Grok large language model. Together, these two systems represent more than one million H100 GPU equivalents. This is an enormous amount of computing power, enabling complex artificial intelligence tasks to be processed faster than ever before. Elon Musk emphasized that Colossus 2 is the first cluster in the world to reach the gigawatt scale, and the planned upgrade to 1.5 gigawatts will take it even further. The speed of construction is astonishing. Colossus 1 went from site preparation to full operation in 122 days.
