Canadian investment company Brookfield and Qatari firm Qai have decided to join forces and invest vast sums in building artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. The two companies announced a joint venture worth $20 billion, equivalent to CZK 413 billion. The initiative focuses on Qatar and several selected countries around the world where they aim to develop AI facilities.
Brookfield, a major global firm headquartered in New York that manages assets worth more than $1 trillion (CZK 20.628 trillion), has partnered with Qai. The latter is a Qatari company focused on AI and is part of the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), Qatar's sovereign wealth fund established in 2005. QIA invests in various sectors around the world to secure long-term growth for Qatar.
The partnership includes investing capital and expertise in building AI infrastructure in Qatar. This means constructing fully integrated AI facilities that will help develop the country's digital and AI ecosystem. They will also receive support from the Qatari government, which will help develop the skills and supply chain required for AI.
Mohammed Saif Al-Sowaidi, CEO of QIA, said: “QIA is at the forefront of progress through investments in AI. Through our long-term partnership with Brookfield, this pact will advance Qatar National Vision 2030 and help build a diversified, innovation-driven economy for future generations.”
Abdulla Al-Misnad, Chairman of Qai, added: “This partnership with Brookfield is an important milestone in Qatar's journey toward building world-class AI infrastructure and capabilities. By combining Brookfield's expertise in developing and managing critical infrastructure with Qai's mission to provide trusted AI solutions, we are creating a strong platform for the responsible deployment of AI. This collaboration will not only attract investment and top talent but also strengthen Qatar's position as a trusted hub for advanced digital technologies in the region and beyond.”
Bruce Flatt, CEO of Brookfield, commented: “We are excited to help Qatar establish this investment in the next generation of AI and digital infrastructure together with Qai. As our first investment in AI infrastructure in the Middle East, this partnership combines Qatar's strategic vision with Brookfield's global expertise in developing and operating large-scale critical infrastructure alongside partners around the world. Together, we look forward to building an integrated AI ecosystem that will accelerate innovation, deepen regional capabilities, and support the responsible deployment of advanced AI technologies across the Middle East.”
Qatar at the Forefront of AI in the Middle East
This joint pact is set to play a key role in Qatar's ambitions to become a leading hub for AI services and infrastructure in the Middle East. The partners plan to build an Integrated Computing Center that will expand access to high-performance computing and enable the deployment of trusted AI technologies in key sectors.
Beyond Qatar, Brookfield and Qai plan to collaborate on developing and building AI infrastructure in other countries. All of this is taking place in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to promote economic diversification and innovation.
Qai, headquartered in Qatar, focuses on developing, operating, and investing in advanced AI infrastructure, technologies, and systems. It works with global technology companies, research institutions, and national partners to provide resilient, human-centered AI solutions that support innovation and economic diversification.
