OpenAI Stargate: Five New Data Centers in the US for CZK 10 Trillion

OpenAI has just taken a step forward in its plans for a massive expansion of computing power for artificial intelligence. In an announcement on Tuesday, the company stated that its agreement with Oracle and SoftBank is expanding to include five new data centers built under the Stargate brand. This project is an update to the $500 billion initiative that OpenAI announced at the White House in January. These new facilities are expected to give OpenAI access to nearly 7 gigawatts of total computing capacity over the next three years. It is an ambitious plan designed to enhance artificial intelligence capabilities and keep OpenAI at the forefront of the technology race.

Details of the New Data Centers

The five additional locations selected include two in Texas, one in New Mexico, one in Ohio, and another in an unnamed Midwestern state. Specifically, OpenAI and SoftBank will jointly develop data centers in Lordstown, Ohio, and Milam County, Texas. Further expansion will involve the existing facility in Abilene, Texas, where OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Oracle's new co-CEO Clay Magouryk anticipate an expansion. These centers are not just about size—they are expected to provide enormous capacity overall, enabling OpenAI to process complex artificial intelligence tasks faster and more efficiently. The companies involved in Stargate are also continuing to evaluate other US locations and plan to invest more than the originally announced $500 billion.

Oracle and SoftBank Collaboration

The agreement with Oracle and SoftBank is at the heart of this project. Oracle provides cloud services that OpenAI currently uses to rent servers, while SoftBank contributes to development and financing. This collaboration is accelerating construction and ensuring that Stargate will not be merely a theoretical concept, but real infrastructure. OpenAI is thus gaining independence from external providers, although Microsoft remains an important cloud partner. The entire plan is designed to support the rapid growth of artificial intelligence, where every gigawatt of capacity means the ability to train models at a scale that was previously impossible.

Related Investment from Nvidia

The announcement comes just one day after Sam Altman and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced an investment of up to $100 billion in OpenAI. The funding is intended to help the startup build its own data centers, separately from renting servers from companies such as Oracle or Microsoft. As a leading chip manufacturer, Nvidia will further strengthen its role in artificial intelligence. Spokespeople for OpenAI and Oracle did not respond to requests for comment, adding a touch of mystery to the matter, but the details point to a massive expansion.
