Netflix Brings Major Changes, Including AI Features, with a New Version of Its App
Streaming giant Netflix has introduced a completely redesigned version of its TV app in recent days, offering users a more modern, intuitive, and personalized experience. This significant update, whose gradual rollout begins this month, represents Netflix’s biggest redesign of its TV interface in recent years.
Modernized Home Page
The new home page features a clean, modern design that places content at the center of attention. The organization of series and films into categories remains unchanged, but each section now presents a main card with key information more prominently. Users can immediately see important details such as the release date, a brief description, any awards (for example, "Emmy Award Winner"), or chart rankings (such as "#1 in TV Shows"). "As viewers browse titles, they can now see detailed information about each option without having to click for additional details," Netflix says in its statement. This approach makes it much easier to decide what to watch.
Improved Navigation for Faster Access
A significant change is the replacement of the sidebar with a new navigation bar at the top of the screen. This adjustment provides easier access to sections such as Home, TV Shows, Movies, Games, Saved List ("My List"), and Search. "Shortcuts such as 'Search' and 'My List' are now more visible at the top of the home page instead of being hidden on the left side," the company explains. This move reflects modern trends in user interface design and should contribute to smoother content browsing.
One of the most practical new features is the display of additional information simply by hovering over a given title. This enhancement immediately reveals further details - such as awards received or popularity - making it easier for viewers to decide without the need for additional clicks.
Smarter Recommendations Tailored to Your Mood
Netflix has made significant improvements to its recommendation algorithm. The new version of the app offers recommendations that are now much more responsive to users’ current moods and interests in real time. "We have improved the recommendations on the home page so that they better respond to your moods and interests at any given moment," Netflix says in its statement. Content suggestions now adapt based on viewing history and recent interactions, ensuring greater personalization.
Mobile Improvements: AI Search and Vertical Video
Netflix has prepared two new features for mobile device users:
- Generative AI Search (Beta) - on iOS devices (as part of a beta version that users can sign up for), users can search using conversational commands such as "I want something funny and uplifting." This artificial intelligence-powered search aims to speed up content discovery by understanding natural-language queries.
- Vertical Video Feed - Netflix is experimenting with a TikTok-style format that displays previews from series or films. Users can watch previews directly from this feed or add titles to their list for later viewing. This feature is designed to make discovering content on mobile devices easy and entertaining.
Rollout Schedule
The redesigned version will become available later this month on compatible smart TVs. Mobile improvements - including AI-powered search - will initially launch as limited beta versions for iOS users before being rolled out more broadly. This comprehensive update clearly demonstrates Netflix’s efforts to maintain its position as a leader in streaming services through continuous improvements to the user experience. As competition in the streaming market continues to grow, modernizing the user interface is a key step toward retaining existing subscribers and attracting new ones.
