AI transforms banking: JPMorgan records growth even amid market instability

At a time when financial markets are experiencing significant turbulence, banking giant JPMorgan Chase is reporting remarkable success. The bank recorded a significant increase in sales and client acquisitions during the market shocks in April 2025, attributing this success primarily to its advanced artificial intelligence tools. According to the latest Reuters report, JPMorgan Chase's asset and wealth management division recorded a 20% year-over-year increase in gross sales between 2023 and 2024. This impressive result is largely attributed to generative AI platforms such as Coach AI and GenAI, which the bank has implemented in its processes. "Our AI tools have proven to be exceptionally effective during the recent market fluctuations," said Mary Erdoes, CEO of JPMorgan Chase's asset and wealth management division. "These technologies not only helped manage complex market conditions, but also anticipate client needs based on historical preferences, turning a potentially chaotic period into an opportunity for growth."

AI as a response to extreme market volatility

April 2025 brought extreme fluctuations in the financial markets, caused primarily by the announcement of new U.S. tariffs, which led to record trading volumes. Under these challenging conditions, JPMorgan's AI systems proved to be an important tool, enabling financial advisors to efficiently handle the sharp increase in client inquiries. With the help of AI, advisors gained access to research and client information up to 95% faster than before. This efficiency meant less time spent searching for information and more time devoted to communicating with clients about strategic decisions. Mike Urciuoli, chief technology officer of JPMorgan's asset and wealth management division, emphasized that "AI does not replace human contact, but strengthens it," allowing employees to focus on high-value tasks while automation handles the research work.

Goldman Sachs follows the trend: Recruiting top AI talent

JPMorgan is not the only financial institution investing heavily in artificial intelligence. Goldman Sachs made a strategic move at the beginning of 2025 by hiring a senior technology executive from Amazon for the newly created position of head of AI engineering. According to a Reuters report from January 2025, the new executive is tasked with building a top-tier team for the development and implementation of AI technologies across Goldman Sachs's business operations. With this move, the bank is demonstrating its determination to remain competitive at a time when technological sophistication is increasingly determining the success of financial institutions. "Artificial intelligence represents one of the most significant technological revolutions of our time and will play a key role in the future of financial services," a Goldman Sachs representative said in an official statement.

Morgan Stanley bets on AI chatbots

As early as September 2023, Morgan Stanley announced the launch of its AI chatbot specifically designed for wealthy clients. This innovation, named after the bank's founder, was developed in collaboration with technology giant OpenAI. The chatbot was designed to enable Morgan Stanley advisors to quickly obtain relevant information from the bank's extensive library of research and content, improving their ability to provide clients with accurate and timely advice. "This tool enables our financial advisors to provide more personalized and informed services to wealthy clients," said Jeff McMillan, head of analytics and data at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management. "It's like having Morgan Stanley's entire library of knowledge at your fingertips."

Measurable results and future prospects

JPMorgan's investments in AI have delivered measurable financial results:

  • 20% year-over-year growth in gross sales (2023-2024).
  • $1.5 billion in savings through improved fraud detection and operational efficiency.
  • Projected growth of the client base by more than 50% over the next five years.

Currently, more than 200,000 JPMorgan employees use the GenAI suite of tools every day, demonstrating the deep integration of AI into banking operations. The technology budget for these initiatives reached $17 billion in 2024, with plans for up to 1,000 different use cases by next year.

The future of banking in the age of artificial intelligence

The examples of JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley illustrate a broader trend in the banking sector: artificial intelligence is becoming not an optional add-on, but a fundamental building block of modern financial services. This transformation brings benefits not only to banks in the form of increased efficiency and reduced costs, but also to clients, who can expect more personalized services, faster responses, and more sophisticated financial advice. JPMorgan Chase has demonstrated how strategic investments in artificial intelligence can deliver tangible business results even amid severe market volatility. Thanks to platforms such as Coach AI and GenAI, advisors respond faster, handle more clients, and generate higher sales growth - all while maintaining or even improving service quality. All of this puts JPMorgan in the position of a leader among global banks in using technology not only to reduce costs, but also as a driver of revenue growth in uncertain times.
