Musk Accuses His Own AI Grok of "Left-Wing Bias" and Plans Overhaul

Elon Musk is once again upset with his own artificial intelligence, Grok, because he dislikes that its answers do not align with his personal political views. When a user on the social network X suggested that Grok had been "manipulated by left-wing indoctrination," the world's richest man fully agreed.

Musk has now announced that he plans to retrain his xAI chatbot Grok to remove what he perceives as "garbage" and "uncorrected data" from its knowledge base. According to him, he wants to use the upcoming Grok 3.5 (or possibly Grok 4) with "advanced reasoning" to "rewrite the entire corpus of human knowledge, add missing information, and delete errors."

The Fight Against "Woke" Artificial Intelligence

Musk has long expressed concerns that leading AI models, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT, are geared toward what he calls "woke" or politically correct positions. He describes his goal for Grok as "anti-woke" and presents it as a counterweight to what he perceives as harmful mainstream narratives and left-wing bias. According to him, competing models omit information that is "not politically correct," and Grok is intended to "compete with OpenAI's more 'woke' ChatGPT."

Criticism from AI Experts

Musk's intention to "rewrite the entire corpus of human knowledge" has drawn criticism from artificial intelligence experts and commentators. Gary Marcus, an AI critic, compared Musk's plan to an "Orwellian dystopia" and suggested that rewriting history according to one person's beliefs is dangerous. Concerns have also emerged that the invitation for the public to submit "controversial facts" included suggestions such as Holocaust denial and conspiracy theories, raising questions about the potential for spreading misinformation.

No Evidence of "Infiltration"

Despite claims of "left-wing infiltration," there is no evidence that Grok AI has been used for "left-wing indoctrination" or that it has been infiltrated by left-wing influences. In fact, Musk's mission is the opposite—he is actively working to make Grok align less with what he considers "left-wing" or "woke" perspectives and wants to reshape its answers according to his own standards of truth and political correctness.

This controversial move has itself sparked considerable debate and concern about the risks of ideological bias and the rewriting of knowledge in artificial intelligence systems.
