New from Meta: Hypernova Glasses with Neural Controls for CZK 18,000

Meta is preparing to take a major step in wearable technology. According to Bloomberg, the new AR glasses called Hypernova are expected to hit the market as early as September. That is sooner than originally expected and at a price that may surprise many. Instead of the original estimates of around $1,000 to $1,400 (approximately CZK 22,500 to CZK 31,500), Meta has decided to lower the price to roughly $800 (about CZK 18,000) for the base model. This is intended to attract more customers right from the start, even though it means lower profits for the company.

Practical Design and Key Features

Hypernova is not a full-fledged augmented reality (AR) headset, but rather a bridge between today's smart glasses and the future. According to details from the article, the glasses have a small display built into the right lens that is visible only to the wearer. It displays notifications, simple apps, or alerts, so you do not have to reach for your phone. Meta is also adding a neural wristband that the company has been developing for several years. This wristband reads signals from your wrist and converts subtle hand movements into commands—no buttons or touchpads, just seamless controls.

Comparison with Competitors

Compared with other devices, Hypernova focuses on practicality and affordability. For example, the Apple Vision Pro, which was released last year for $3,499 (approximately CZK 78,700), has faced criticism for its high price, heavy design, and limited content. It is sold mainly to enthusiasts and professionals, but sales have not been as high as expected. Meta, by contrast, is targeting everyday users with Hypernova—offering quick access to notifications, navigation, or basic productivity at a price comparable to a premium phone. The glasses build on the Ray-Ban experiments but go further thanks to the display and new control system.

Price and Availability

The base price of $800 (CZK 18,000) is appealing, but extras such as prescription lenses or designer frames will push the price higher. Meta is therefore cutting costs and accepting lower margins to get the glasses into the hands of as many people as possible. According to additional information, the official unveiling could take place at the Meta Connect event on September 17, with pre-orders opening immediately afterward and deliveries beginning in October. For consumers, this could be their first genuine experience with AR in everyday life, but its success will depend on app support and Meta's ecosystem.
