Google has introduced Connected Apps Platform to help businesses and developers connect their apps to AI features in Gemini and Search. Developers can choose to offer an app in either service or both.
What connected apps can do
Connected apps let users carry out tasks with third-party services. For example, they can design a flyer in Canva or create a playlist in YouTube Music.
How developers can connect an app
The platform’s public beta is available to developers in the U.S. who join the waitlist.
Google says developers should start by integrating their app with a cloud-hosted MCP server or Android MCP using the AppFunctions APIs. They can then register, test and submit it through Google Connected Console.
Once an app is live, developers can monitor traffic, response times and error rates. They can also retain control over their brand’s presentation, including verified logos and authenticated accounts.
More apps are headed to Search
More than 50 connected apps are already available in Gemini, including Google services and apps from Adobe, Experian, Localiza and Peloton. Those apps are expected to reach Search over the next few weeks.
Search currently has fewer integrations, including Instacart, Canva and YouTube Music. Google also named meditation app Calm as a new partner and said its connected app would soon arrive in both Gemini and Search.
