OpenAI is rolling out Intelligent UI in ChatGPT alongside GPT-6, adding visual elements to text-based conversations. The company says many of these elements will be interactive, allowing users to work with them directly. OpenAI’s main aim is to make complex topics easier to learn.
Editable charts and task-specific calculators
OpenAI says responses will include tappable buttons and calculators tailored to a particular task. Other elements will include interactive charts and graphs that users can edit directly within the conversation.
A demonstration of how an airplane wing generates lift
In a demonstration for journalists, OpenAI product manager Aarush Selvan asked ChatGPT how an airplane wing generates lift. The chatbot quickly produced several illustrative diagrams explaining the principles of flight.
OpenAI also gives everyday examples, including visuals for recipes and a diagram explaining bicycle mechanics. For planning, it points to a map for a multi-day hiking trip, while its personal finance example is a savings calculator.
Global rollout, with Free and Go following a day later
Intelligent UI is rolling out globally alongside GPT-6 for Pro, Plus, Business and Enterprise plans. Users on Free and Go plans are due to receive the feature the following day.
The interface will be customizable. Users who prefer less visually rich responses will be able to reduce the number of these elements.
