ChatGPT Can Finally Record and Summarize Meetings
OpenAI has finally introduced a new feature called ChatGPT Record, which simplifies note-taking during meetings and brainstorming sessions. This innovative feature is currently available only for Team workspaces in the macOS desktop app and was officially launched in early June 2025.
Easy to Use and Packed with Options
The recording process is surprisingly simple and intuitive. Users only need to click the Record button at the bottom of any chat, and the system will immediately begin recording and transcribing audio. When using it for the first time, microphone and/or system audio permissions must be granted. ChatGPT then captures audio from meetings and automatically generates a clear, editable summary. A significant advantage of this approach is that, unlike competing solutions from companies such as Notion or Zoom, which require joining as a participant, ChatGPT Record simply listens through your device and processes what is being said.
The feature offers extensive options for processing recordings and using them afterward. In addition to basic transcription, ChatGPT Record can turn conversations into useful outputs such as project plans, emails, or even code. The system automatically creates structured notes containing a summary, key points, action items, and open questions. This comprehensive analysis allows users to quickly understand the essence of the entire meeting without having to review the full transcript or listen to the entire recording again.
One of the most valuable features of ChatGPT Record is how it organizes and stores information for future use. Transcripts are automatically saved as a canvas in the chat history, making past conversations easy to search, reference, and act on. This integration allows users to ask questions about previous meetings, such as "What did we decide during Monday's roadmap sync based on these notes?" and receive grounded answers with citations. This creates a genuine knowledge base that gradually expands with every new recording.
The service is fully available in the Czech Republic without any regional restrictions. The quality of interactions in Czech is good, although ChatGPT still achieves its highest accuracy in English.
For advanced voice conversations, audio and video clips are stored together with transcripts in the chat history, while visual indicators show which chats used advanced voice mode. These recordings are retained for as long as the chat remains in your history and are deleted within 30 days after you delete the chat (unless they are required for security or legal reasons). This transparency in data handling gives users a clear understanding of how long their sensitive information is retained.
OpenAI places great emphasis on responsible use when recording other people. Users are responsible for reviewing local recording laws, obtaining appropriate consent before recording others, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, which may vary by location. This attention to legal and ethical considerations shows that the company recognizes the sensitivity of the data processed by its tool.
