ChatGPT now remembers everything!
OpenAI recently introduced a groundbreaking update for ChatGPT—expanded memory, which changes the way we communicate with AI. This new feature, announced on April 10, 2025, shifts ChatGPT from a one-off conversational tool to a long-term personal assistant.
What’s new?
ChatGPT now automatically stores and recalls relevant details from all previous conversations. You don’t need to remind it what you said a week or month ago—it simply remembers. For example, when you mention your interest in baseball or programming, ChatGPT remembers these preferences and tailors future responses accordingly. Imagine having an assistant that knows your preferences, communication style, and goals without the need for repeated explanations. That is exactly what this feature delivers.
OpenAI has also considered privacy. Users have full control over what ChatGPT remembers:
- The option to turn memory off completely
- Deletion of specific saved memories
- "Temporary Chats" mode for conversations where you do not want information to be stored
Availability
The feature is gradually being rolled out to paid users (ChatGPT Plus and Pro) worldwide. However, for regulatory reasons, it is not yet available in the EU, the United Kingdom, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. Team, business, and education accounts will gain access in the coming weeks.
What does this mean for us?
This update represents a significant step toward creating AI systems that evolve alongside their users. For content creators, developers, and everyday users, it means less repetition, more personalized advice, and smoother collaboration overall. Unlike previous features that required explicit instructions to save information, the new system works automatically in the background unless the user turns it off. It seems that the era of isolated AI conversations is coming to an end. The age of AI that truly knows us and learns with us is beginning.
