Growing Investor Interest: Anthropic Targets $10 Billion

Anthropic, an artificial intelligence startup, is currently in advanced talks to raise up to $10 billion (approximately CZK 225 billion) in a new funding round. That is double the company's original target. According to two people familiar with the matter, the talks involve a company valuation of $170 billion (about CZK 3.825 trillion), a significant jump from the $58 billion valuation (approximately CZK 1.305 trillion) in the round that closed at the beginning of this year.

The company decided to increase the size of the round after receiving more investor interest than expected. The first part of the new funding closed last week, and the entire round is expected to be completed by the end of the month, according to one informed source. Details of the round were previously reported by Bloomberg.

Key Investors in the Current Round

Investors participating in this round include Iconiq Capital, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Menlo Ventures. Discussions are also underway with QIA (Qatar Investment Authority), which may join the round. According to further information from recent reports, TPG, Spark Capital, and Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC are also joining them, expanding the pool of interested parties in this ambitious project.

This group of investors reflects broad interest in Anthropic, which was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees. The company is known for its generative artificial intelligence models, such as the Claude family, which are used in enterprise environments and by developers. Its existing investors include major technology companies such as Amazon and Google.

Funding and Valuation History

At the beginning of 2025, Anthropic closed a $3.5 billion funding round (approximately CZK 78.75 billion), valuing the company at $61.5 billion (about CZK 1.384 trillion) post-money. The current talks concerning a $170 billion valuation would represent one of the largest valuation jumps in the history of AI startups. This growth underscores the intense competition in the sector, where Anthropic competes with players such as OpenAI and xAI.

Negotiations are still ongoing, so the final size or terms of the round may yet change. This move could help Anthropic accelerate model development, expand its infrastructure, and strengthen its position in the international market.

What Does This Mean for Anthropic's Future?

With this level of funding, Anthropic could continue investing in the development of its AI systems and expanding its presence. This fundraising effort is one of the largest in the history of AI startups and demonstrates growing investor confidence in the company's potential. Interest from sovereign wealth funds such as QIA and GIC indicates that Anthropic is attracting not only private capital but also government-backed investment from various parts of the world.
