Anthropic Enables Connecting Applications with Claude Artificial Intelligence

In the rapidly developing world of artificial intelligence, Anthropic is introducing a major enhancement to its popular Claude AI. At the beginning of May, the company announced that users can now connect their AI assistant to external applications and data sources, significantly increasing its productivity and personalization.

Google Workspace – the first major integration

The most visible step forward is integration with Google Workspace. In April 2025, Anthropic announced that Claude can now connect directly to Gmail, Google Calendar, and other applications from the Google Workspace suite. This means that the chatbot can access your emails and calendar and use this information to provide more relevant and personalized responses. "You no longer need to manually upload files or create extensive descriptions of situations," Anthropic explains in a press release. "Claude can now look directly into your emails and create a response that takes the specific context of your communication into account." This feature is currently available in beta for subscribers to the Team, Enterprise, and Pro plans. In the case of business accounts, an administrator must first enable this feature before individual users can use it. When Claude refers to content from applications such as Gmail or Calendar, it provides direct citations, so you always know where the information comes from. Imagine that you need to quickly find out when you last communicated with an important client or what topics you discussed with them. Instead of laboriously searching through emails, you can simply ask Claude to find and summarize the information.

Model Context Protocol – an open standard for connecting applications

At the end of 2024, Anthropic introduced the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that enables assistants such as Claude to connect to a wide range of business tools and software systems – not just Google products. MCP enables developers to create two-way connections between AI-powered applications and various data sources. For example, after connecting to GitHub, Claude can help create new repositories or create pull requests directly through a conversational interface. "MCP represents a fundamental shift in how AI assistants work with existing business tools," says Anthropic. "It is not just an integration, but a true collaboration between AI and enterprise systems." Companies such as Block and Apollo have already integrated MCP into their systems, and development platforms such as Replit are also adding support. This openness means that in the future we will see more and more applications working directly with Claude.

Other major integrations for business customers

For business-focused customers using the Team or Enterprise plans, Anthropic offers additional specialized integrations:

  • Connections to customer relationship management platforms (e.g., Salesforce), enabling Claude to analyze and generate overviews of customer data.
  • GitHub integration for engineering teams, making it easier to work with code and documentation.
  • The ability to base outputs on proprietary knowledge bases through the Projects feature.
  • Workspace Artifacts, which allows users to collaboratively edit generated content directly within the application.

These features significantly expand Claude's usefulness in the business environment, where it can serve as a central point for accessing and analyzing various types of data.

Security and privacy first

Anthropic emphasizes that user security and privacy are a priority. Every connection to external services (such as Gmail or Google Drive) is individually verified for each user, and data cannot be shared between different user accounts. By default, Anthropic does not train its models on user data from these integrations. Strict authentication controls have been introduced to enhance security.

Although these integrations significantly expand Claude's capabilities, certain limitations still exist:

  • Some features require activation by an administrator in the organizational settings.
  • Direct actions, such as sending emails or calendar invitations, are not yet supported by default.
  • Users may need more detailed control over what is shared.

However, it is clear that Anthropic is moving toward creating a full-fledged assistant capable of working efficiently across various applications and data sources. As time progresses, we can expect Claude to gain even more integration options and become a central point for interacting with the digital world.
