For example, the term "artificial intelligence" first appeared in 1956 at a workshop at Dartmouth. At the time, a small group of researchers gathered to explore how machines might imitate human learning. This meeting is now considered the official birth of the entire field.

Another interesting fact concerns chess. In 1997, IBM's Deep Blue computer defeated the reigning world champion Garry Kasparov. This achievement shook the world and proved that machines could outperform humans in challenging strategy games. It shocked people and sparked debates about the limits of the human mind.

Artificial intelligence has also made its mark in art. In 2022, an artwork created by AI won first place in an art competition at the Colorado State Fair. The judges and visitors were amazed when they learned that the winning piece had been created by a machine. This sparked discussions about creativity and the role of artists in the emerging AI era.

One of the first chatbots was ELIZA, created in 1966. This program imitated a psychotherapist by turning users' statements into simple questions. Although it was primitive, many people felt that it was genuinely listening to them. This example paved the way for modern conversational systems.

Autonomous vehicles have been tested since the 1980s. By the 2020s, companies such as Waymo and Tesla had launched tests on real city streets. What once looked like science fiction became part of everyday transportation experiments.

Modern AI sometimes produces answers that sound convincing but are completely made up. These errors are called hallucinations and resemble human dreams because the system mixes knowledge with imagination and creates new but unreliable outputs.

The first "AI winter" occurred in the 1970s, when enthusiasm faded because systems failed to meet expectations. Funding stopped and research slowed down. The field was not revived until new methods and faster computers emerged several years later.

Today, AI helps create music and films. In the music and film industries, AI tools are used to write lyrics, generate background music, and design visual effects. Some fans cannot even tell which parts were created by a machine.

Synthetic voices can fool human listeners. Advances in voice generation make it possible to create speech that sounds almost identical to real people. Artificial intelligence has become part of many companies. According to the McKinsey State of AI 2025 report, 71% of organizations use generative AI in at least one business function. Adoption has grown rapidly compared with previous years, making generative AI a common tool in marketing, product development, and customer support.

AI is gaining ground rapidly in medicine. The Stanford AI Index 2025 states that by 2023, the U.S. FDA had approved 223 medical devices powered by AI or machine learning. These approvals cover areas such as radiology, cardiology, and patient monitoring.

Autonomous rides are becoming a reality. Waymo provides about 150,000 autonomous rides per week in U.S. cities. This figure from the Stanford AI Index 2025 shows how autonomous vehicle technology has progressed from limited testing to actual transportation services. Passengers in some U.S. cities can book rides that operate in certain areas without a human driver.

Investment in AI startups reached $67 billion in 2024 (approximately CZK 1.541 trillion). The Stanford AI Index 2025 reports that funding is concentrated on generative AI, autonomous systems, and specialized AI hardware. This flow of money has grown even further this year.

The cost of operating large AI models has fallen significantly. The Stanford AI Index 2025 states that cheaper operation allows more companies to deploy AI applications on a large scale. Lower costs are accelerating adoption in customer service and software development.

Marketing, product development, and service operations lead in the use of generative AI. The McKinsey State of AI 2025 says that marketing teams use AI for content creation and personalization. Product development relies on AI for design and testing. Service operations deploy AI to provide faster responses and a better customer experience.

More than one billion people interact with generative AI every week. From chat assistants to design platforms, these tools have become part of everyday routines.

AI-powered predictive maintenance reduces downtime by up to 30%. Industry surveys from this year show that manufacturing companies analyze sensor data to predict failures in advance. This prevents costly outages and extends the lifespan of machinery.

AI education programs have become part of national curricula in more than 20 countries. According to education reports from 2025, these initiatives teach students how AI works and how to use it responsibly.

The global AI market is estimated at $279 billion to $391 billion (approximately CZK 6 trillion to CZK 9 trillion) in the first half of 2025. By 2030, it could reach $826.7 billion (approximately CZK 19 trillion), with annual growth of between 28% and 36%.

Generative AI is growing faster, with a value of $36.1 billion (approximately CZK 830 billion) in 2024, which is expected to exceed $100 billion (approximately CZK 2.2 trillion) in 2025 and reach $356 billion (approximately CZK 8.2 trillion) by 2030, with annual growth of 46%.

The global AI workforce numbers 97 million people in 2025. The number of AI companies has almost doubled since 2017 to 67,200, with 25% based in the U.S.

83% of companies consider AI a priority, while 48% use it to leverage big data. In Australia, 1.3 million companies (about 50%) used AI solutions between 2024 and 2025, with adoption at 81% among startups compared with 61% among large enterprises.

AI adoption delivers average revenue growth of 34% and cost savings of 38%. Training a single large AI model consumes as much electricity as 100 U.S. households use in a year. By 2027, NVIDIA could be supplying 1.5 million AI server units, which would require at least 85.4 terawatt-hours of electricity.

Only 23% of leading AI professionals are women, but the number of first AI publications by women has increased by 93% over the past decade. Taiwan (36%) and Australia (26%) lead in women's participation.

Generative AI is transforming fields such as entertainment, healthcare, marketing, and e-learning. More than half of marketers say that AI-generated content outperforms human-created content.

The U.S. is the largest regional AI market, valued at $50.16 billion (approximately CZK 1.1 trillion), with major investments from Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Nvidia. Employees in Latin America (48%) and Asia-Pacific/Japan (46%) are the most open to adopting AI.

AI could generate up to $15.7 trillion (approximately CZK 361 trillion) in global revenue by 2030 and increase local GDP by as much as 26%. These figures show how profoundly AI is affecting the economy, society, and the environment.
