New Year's Hike to the Černá Studnice Lookout Tower in the Liberec Region

As has traditionally been the case for several years in a row, we climbed up to the Černá Studnice lookout tower.

It is not as though we traveled across the entire country just for a trip like this.

My girlfriend's parents live here, and we have been visiting them regularly for several years on New Year's Eve.

You can easily get to the lookout tower by parking in the village of Dolní Studnice and heading uphill in the direction of Smržovka.

The advantage of this location is that, toward the end of the year, you always arrive during a period when there is plenty of snow and frost, and the entire route generally has a pleasant, still-Christmas atmosphere.

Despite the haze of the current situation, we passed a great many people along the way.

The entire journey took about 30 minutes, during which we witnessed an accident that also required the emergency services to be called.

It was clear to me how the situation had occurred, because we, too, were slipping along the entire way on the icy surface lining the middle and edges of the asphalt road.

The area around the lookout tower at the summit was completely packed.

People everywhere.

Stalls stood all around, where you could get mulled wine, beer, or something tasty to eat.

We enjoyed the swings with our little one, climbed up the lookout tower, and took a few photos.

The weather turned out perfectly, so the view was absolutely amazing as well.

We could see all of Jablonec nad Nisou, and it was even possible to see as far as Sněžka.

After enjoying the view, we hurried back down to the car and headed home for some hot tea.

We got thoroughly chilled, but the walk was well worth it.

The Krkonoše Mountains are beautiful (not only) in winter, and we do not get to enjoy views like that in South Moravia.

The days when there were snowdrifts here are more than 10 years gone.

What about you? Do you have a place you go to on New Year's Day?
