Microsoft launches beta testing of Copilot for Gaming AI assistant in the Xbox mobile app
On May 28, 2025, Microsoft began beta testing its latest AI assistant designed for gamers - Copilot for Gaming. This revolutionary feature is now available in the Xbox mobile app for Android and iOS, marking a significant step toward integrating artificial intelligence into the gaming world. Copilot for Gaming was first introduced during the official Xbox podcast in March 2025 by Xbox Corporate Vice President of Gaming AI Fatima Kardar, who described it as the "ultimate gaming sidekick."
Copilot for Gaming is designed as a context-aware AI assistant that combines information from your personal gaming activity on the Xbox platform with public data from the Bing search engine. This allows it to provide highly personalized advice and assistance tailored to your gaming style and experience. The assistant understands which game you are currently playing, knows your Xbox activity, and can answer questions about games that interest you. Its key features include helping you when you get stuck in a game, providing information about your gaming history and achievements, recommending new games based on your preferences, and acting as a coach to help you improve your gaming skills.
The beta version allows users to communicate with Copilot using text and voice commands through a second screen in the Xbox mobile app. When you ask a question, Copilot references your personal Xbox activity profile while also searching Bing for relevant information when necessary. This dual approach enables it to provide highly personalized assistance that combines your gaming history with broader gaming know-how. Microsoft describes it as a blend of a virtual strategist and tutor that helps you overcome obstacles and improve your overall gaming skills.
Microsoft's goal with Copilot for Gaming is to address gamers' time-management challenges by allowing them to spend less time on certain tasks and more time actually playing games. The initial beta version is currently available only to users aged 18 and over in designated regions, specifically the US, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, and other specified areas. The feature is not yet supported in the Czech Republic. Access is also limited to English-language users. Android users can download the beta version of the Xbox app from the Google Play Store. Access for iOS users is limited to those who previously signed up for the Xbox beta app through Apple TestFlight, which is currently full.
Microsoft plans to expand availability in the future, with the beta version coming soon to Game Bar on Windows PCs and eventually becoming widely available in the Xbox mobile app. Users can provide feedback directly through the "Give Feedback" option under "More Options" in the app or by using the "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" ratings for Copilot's responses.
