Hexagon Introduces AEON: An AI-Powered Industrial Humanoid Robot

Hexagon, a global leader in measurement technologies and industrial automation, officially launched the AEON industrial humanoid robot in June 2025. The robot was unveiled at the Hexagon LIVE Global conference and is specifically designed to address persistent labor shortages and automation needs across key sectors such as automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, warehousing, logistics, and transportation.

AEON was created in response to the global shortage of industrial workers, with millions of manufacturing and logistics positions remaining unfilled. The robot is designed for tasks requiring precision, reliability, and adaptability, supporting efforts to automate complex, error-prone, or physically demanding work.

Advanced Technological Capabilities

AEON combines sophisticated walking and balancing capabilities with dexterous manipulation, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial tasks, such as parts sorting, asset inspection, and operational support. The robot uses real-time artificial intelligence and precise sensor systems to operate autonomously in dynamic and unpredictable industrial environments, excelling at tasks prone to human error.

One of AEON's key features is its ability to automatically scan industrial assets and spaces to generate 3D models. This feature supports advanced visualization and collaboration through the Hexagon Digital Reality (HxDR) platform, enabling the creation of digital twins of industrial facilities.

Integration with NVIDIA Technologies

AEON's development and operation are deeply integrated with NVIDIA's robotics and artificial intelligence ecosystem. The robot uses a three-computer robotics platform that includes:

  • AI supercomputers for training and refining foundation models
  • The NVIDIA Omniverse platform for simulation, optimization, and testing in virtual environments
  • NVIDIA IGX Thor robotics computers for real-time deployment

Hexagon used a simulation-based approach to develop AEON, leveraging NVIDIA Isaac to simulate critical skills such as manipulation. Reinforcement learning in NVIDIA Isaac Lab was then used to accelerate AEON's acquisition of these skills. This approach reduced the training time from six months to less than three weeks.

Industrial Impact and Applications

AEON is positioned as a solution to the global shortage of industrial workers and is engineered for tasks requiring high precision, reliability, and adaptability. Its main areas of application include:

Automotive and aerospace: The robot can perform precise component inspections, parts sorting, and support assembly processes where high accuracy and consistency are essential.

Manufacturing and warehousing: AEON can automate complex tasks on factory floors and in warehouses, including material handling, quality control, and inventory management.

Logistics and transportation: The robot can support logistics operations through efficient package sorting, goods loading, and navigation in complex warehouse environments.
