Google Could Provide Anthropic With Computing Power on a Massive Scale

The world of artificial intelligence was shaken up when reports emerged of talks between Anthropic and technology giant Google. These discussions could lead to a deal worth tens of billions of dollars. Anthropic, known for its AI models such as Claude, already works with Google Cloud on large-scale computing tasks, and there is now talk of expanding this collaboration.

Preliminary Talks

The talks are still at an early stage, but they are focused on Google providing Anthropic with additional computing capacity. Specifically, this would involve the use of Google's specialized chips, known as Tensor Processing Units, which are designed specifically for artificial intelligence workloads. Anthropic already offers its Claude models on Google's Vertex AI platform, and this deal would take the partnership further. For example, it could include mega-scale Kubernetes clusters for the efficient management of artificial intelligence operations.

Anthropic has a similar partnership with Amazon, which is both an investor and an infrastructure provider. This dual relationship is prompting speculation about how a new deal with Google would affect the balance between these two cloud giants. No final agreement has been reached yet, but the market reacted immediately to the news—shares of Alphabet, Google's parent company, rose, while Amazon's shares fell.

Details of the Talks

According to available information, the deal would give Anthropic access to vast amounts of computing resources, which are crucial for training and operating advanced artificial intelligence models. Google Cloud already handles heavy workloads for Anthropic, and an expansion would mean an even greater scale. The company, which focuses on safe and ethical AI, could thus gain additional tools for its growth. No speculation about changes to the partnership with Amazon has been confirmed yet, but the market sees this as a sign of fierce competition between Google and Amazon for clients in the AI sector.
