Google Announces Advances in Augmented Reality and AI Glasses

Google is collaborating with partners such as Samsung, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker to develop lightweight and stylish AI glasses (smart glasses with artificial intelligence), which are expected to launch next year. These glasses come in two variants. The first type has no display and provides hands-free assistance—they have built-in speakers, microphones, and cameras, allowing you to talk to Gemini, take photos, or get advice directly. The second type has a display embedded in the lenses that shows information directly in your field of view, such as turn-by-turn navigation or translation captions.

These glasses are designed to be comfortable for all-day wear and tailored to personal style. For example, you can use the camera and microphone to ask Gemini questions about your surroundings or have it remind you of important things. The display versions will then show useful details, such as live translation captions, right before your eyes.

Project Aura: The First Wired XR Glasses from XREAL

Among the new products, XREAL's Project Aura stands out as the first device in the wired XR glasses category (wired augmented reality glasses) on the Android XR platform. These glasses look like robust sunglasses with a cable leading to a battery pack that also serves as a trackpad. They offer a 70-degree field of view and optical transparency, overlaying digital content directly onto the real world.

In practice, this means you can create a huge virtual canvas for multiple windows—ideal for work or entertainment on the go without losing touch with your surroundings. For example, you can watch a recipe in a floating video while cooking or view instructions attached to an appliance you are repairing. Project Aura is expected to launch next year, and Google promises to share more details soon.
