Apple Plans an AI Tool for Siri That Will Beat the Competition!
Apple is working on a new tool for Siri designed to provide advanced artificial intelligence (AI)-powered web search. The system, internally known as World Knowledge Answers, will allow Siri to process general internet queries, summarize results, and support its answers with text, photos, videos, and local points of interest. It is scheduled to launch in March 2026 as part of a major Siri update. This move is intended to help Siri catch up with advanced services from OpenAI and Google.
Apple sees this tool as an opportunity to position Siri in direct competition with generative AI services such as ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews, and Perplexity. Following technical issues with Siri's original architecture, Apple rebuilt it using large language models (LLMs). Company executives say the new architecture is exceeding expectations.
Talks with Google and Other Partners
Apple is in talks with Google about integrating the Gemini model to power Siri's new capabilities. Following a formal agreement, Apple is testing the technology. At the same time, it is testing its own models and considering options from OpenAI and Anthropic, although Anthropic's pricing is reportedly an obstacle. This approach gives Apple flexibility in experimenting with both its own and its partners' AI technologies.
The financial ties between Apple and Google remain strong. A recent court ruling upheld Google's multibillion-dollar payments to Apple for being the default search engine in the Safari browser. This allows Apple to continue developing its own solutions without losing support.
Future Expansion
The new AI search engine could later be expanded to Spotlight search and the Safari browser. Apple is thus responding to delays in AI features, where Siri has lagged behind its competitors' recent advances. The goal is to close the gap and offer users a comprehensive tool for everyday queries.
This plan is part of Apple's effort to strengthen its position in artificial intelligence. With the integration of advanced models and a focus on accurate, multimedia answers, Siri is poised to become a major player in AI search.
