The TechFirst Program for One Million Students

The aptly named TechFirst initiative aims to introduce artificial intelligence and AI technologies to approximately one million secondary school students over the course of three years. This task will be undertaken by the program's flagship initiative, TechYouth.

Teaching will focus not only on understanding the basic principles but also on practical skills. A large proportion of students will thus be prepared for the jobs of the future and will be better able to meet the demands of the job market. According to the Prime Minister, AI literacy is not merely an advantage but an essential foundation for high-quality job opportunities in the 21st century.

The government has invested £187 million in the program. Making AI education accessible at secondary school is intended to ensure equal opportunities for children from lower-income families as well. Estimates suggest that AI will become an integral part of jobs in defense, healthcare, education, and administration.

Integrating AI into Every Sector

However, the response to AI's growing popularity does not end with teaching in secondary schools. The Prime Minister announced that by 2030, more than 7 million British workers will also receive training in AI technologies, while educational materials will be provided by major companies such as Google, Microsoft, and NVIDIA.

According to the Independent, Prime Minister Keir Starmer also plans to invest in the development of artificial intelligence in the coming years. In his view, the United Kingdom should become a recognized developer and creator of AI rather than merely a passive consumer.
