TikTok is launching Shopping Assistant, an AI shopping agent, alongside a new in-app checkout feature. The tools pair help finding products with the ability to buy directly from brands. They also extend shopping beyond TikTok Shop, the platform’s internal marketplace, into other parts of the app.
TikTok says Shopping Assistant remembers preferences during conversations
TikTok describes Shopping Assistant as a conversational AI agent designed to help people find and buy products. The company says it understands the context of a conversation and remembers users’ needs and preferences throughout the exchange.
According to TikTok, the assistant provides real-time guidance on product details, sizing, availability and shipping. It also helps users complete a purchase.
Buying directly from brands through For You
TikTok says the new checkout feature lets users buy directly from a brand with one click from the For You feed. This is the app’s main video feed, where an algorithm selects the videos users see.
TikTok Shop, the platform’s internal marketplace, has been its central shopping destination. The new features bring shopping tools into other parts of the app, including the For You feed.
TikTok says it is developing the new features with commerce platforms and payment providers. Its partners include Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza and Stripe.
