Altman Says OpenAI Is Headed for CZK 2.3 Trillion in Annual Revenue by 2027

According to Altman, OpenAI Is Heading Toward CZK 2.3 Trillion in Annual Revenue by 2027

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, suggested that the company could achieve annual revenue of up to $100 billion (approximately CZK 2.3 trillion) as early as 2027. This estimate is based on the rapid development of artificial intelligence, particularly agents, which are expected to account for the majority of revenue. Altman mentioned this in the context of current figures, with OpenAI already exceeding $13 billion in annual revenue, or more than CZK 300 billion. This growth follows a period in which the company reported $4.3 billion in sales in the first half of 2025, equivalent to about CZK 99 billion, while also burning through $2.5 billion in cash, or around CZK 57.5 billion.

OpenAI's Current Revenue and Growth

In July 2025, OpenAI reached annualized revenue of $12 billion, equivalent to approximately CZK 276 billion. This figure means that the company is well on its way toward its full-year target of between $15 billion and $20 billion, or CZK 345 billion to CZK 460 billion. Revenue is divided into several categories: consumer subscriptions such as ChatGPT Plus account for 55% to 60%, enterprise solutions such as ChatGPT Enterprise generate 25% to 30%, and the developer API provides the remaining 15% to 20%. This growth is also evident in comparison with previous years—in 2022, revenue was just $28 million (about CZK 644 million), rising to $2 billion (CZK 46 billion) in 2023 and $3.7 billion (CZK 85 billion) in 2024.

ChatGPT, OpenAI's flagship product, now has 700 million weekly active users, up from 100 million in November 2023. This success is being driven by improvements such as better image generation and multimodal features. The company now controls more than 60% of the artificial intelligence tools market and is valued at an estimated $157 billion, or about CZK 3.6 trillion.

Financial Results for the First Half of 2025

In the first half of 2025, OpenAI generated $4.3 billion in sales, a 16% increase compared with the same period in 2024. This figure is confirmed by shareholder documents and shows that the company is heading toward an annual target of around $13 billion. At the same time, however, it burned through $2.5 billion in cash, mainly due to research and development spending of $6.7 billion (more than CZK 154 billion). Other major items include infrastructure, aggressive business deals, and sales expenses, which doubled to $2 billion (CZK 46 billion).

The annual cash burn rate is expected to reach $8 billion to $8.5 billion in 2025, with research and computing costs consuming about 75% of total revenue. OpenAI is attracting investment from companies such as Nvidia and SoftBank, helping to cover these costs.

Future Expectations According to Altman

Altman believes that artificial intelligence agent services—software capable of handling complex tasks in customer service, software engineering, or administration—will generate the majority of revenue by 2027. Estimates project that this segment will grow from $0.5 billion in 2025 (CZK 11.5 billion) to more than $62 billion in 2027 (CZK 1.4 trillion). Consumer and enterprise revenue will also grow, but not as quickly.

This scenario assumes massive investment in computing power of up to $1.4 trillion (CZK 32 trillion), which some analysts question due to concerns about returns. Altman, however, emphasizes that OpenAI is growing faster than other giants such as Google or Meta, which took eight years to reach similar milestones, while OpenAI achieved them in three. The company is thus setting a new standard for the speed at which artificial intelligence-based software can be scaled.
