Mark Zuckerberg Is Shaking Things Up with AI at Meta Again

Mark Zuckerberg and Meta are significantly ramping up their artificial intelligence efforts this year. The company plans to spend up to $72 billion (approximately CZK 1.62 trillion) on capital expenditures related to AI infrastructure. This is more than double its previous spending and is intended to support the development and deployment of advanced artificial intelligence models. Key projects include the Prometheus supercluster in Ohio (a data center), which is expected to reach 1 gigawatt of computing power by 2026, and the Hyperion cluster in Louisiana, which could eventually scale up to 5 gigawatts. These facilities are intended to secure Meta a leading position in AI computing capacity.

Integrating AI into Meta’s Platforms

Zuckerberg’s vision for Meta this year focuses on integrating artificial intelligence into all of the company’s major platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. This integration is intended to improve user engagement by enabling AI algorithms to personalize content and experiences. For example, the company is expected to develop advanced virtual reality (VR) experiences, intelligent chatbots, and content creation tools for both users and businesses. Meta AI is now available in 22 countries, with plans for further expansion to strengthen the global reach of these technologies.

Organizational Changes

As part of its organizational changes, Meta is downsizing its artificial intelligence division and splitting Meta Superintelligence Labs into specialized groups focused on research, superintelligence, products, and infrastructure plus hardware. The company is considering purchasing artificial intelligence models from third parties to complement its own development. Despite the cuts, Zuckerberg remains committed to keeping Meta at the forefront of AI, as demonstrated by recent investments such as its $14.3 billion stake (approximately CZK 322 billion) in Scale AI. Key hires include Alexandr Wang and Matt Deitke, who are expected to strengthen the team.

Contributions to Open Source and Ethical AI

Meta is also focusing on open-source contributions such as the PyTorch framework and LLaMA models, which support both academic and commercial artificial intelligence research. The company emphasizes ethical AI and open science, including responsible development, bias reduction, and transparency. These efforts are intended to ensure that Meta not only innovates but also contributes to safe and inclusive progress in AI.

Mark Zuckerberg’s approach positions Meta as a global leader in artificial intelligence, combining massive infrastructure with innovative products and strategic decision-making.
